Your card is protected by Mastercard Identity Check. It’s our way of making sure you have a safe online shopping experience when you use your Yorkshire Bank credit card online.
When you use your card in shops and restaurants, it uses the latest Chip and PIN technologies to beat the fraudsters. When you use your card online, transactions performed within a Merchant’s App or on their website, Mastercard® Identity Check™ protects you even more without the need to register or remember a password. Using either our Mobile Banking App or a one-time passcode sent to your registered phone number, Identity Check lets you identify yourself as the owner of the card and stops anyone else using your card online.
Mastercard credit cards use the latest chip and PIN technology to combat fraudsters. For online purchases, performed within a Merchant’s App or on their website, Mastercard Identity Check improves your security even more. Using a personal password, known only to you, it lets you identify yourself as the owner of the card and stops anyone else using your card online.
To make sure all online transactions performed within a Merchant’s App or on their website are secure, you may be asked to verify your identity when you use your Mastercard at a participating online retailer.
If you are registered for the Mobile Banking App, we will send a message to your App. You will need to accept this message before you can complete your transaction.
If you have a mobile or landline number on record (and do not have the Mobile Banking App) then we will send you a six-digit one-time passcode for you to enter on screen at the retailer’s checkout.
Make sure we have your current mobile or landline number (call us on 0800 456 1247 or visit us in branch if you’re not certain). You can check the details we hold about you on internet banking by logging in and viewing your contact information from the 'More' menu.
If you do not have either then please be aware that your transaction may be declined.”
Mastercard Identity Check works with most internet browsers and merchant apps, but software that prevents pop-up windows may interfere with your use of Identity Check.

Go to the Virgin Money websiteNever tell anyone a token 3 response code, even someone from the bank. You should only input these codes to our secure Business Internet Banking service when you’re sending and making payments. If anyone calls and asks for a token 3 response code or asks you to authorise a payment on the App for fraud checks, hang up and call us on 0800 085 2914 from another line if possible, remember the Bank will never ask you to disclose your security details.
