Scotland’s newest independent blenders and whisky merchants, Edinburgh Whisky Ltd. are planning to expand their range after receiving funding from Clydesdale Bank.
After their recent launch in August, Edinburgh Whisky is already looking to grow with new single cask offerings being introduced in November.
The funding deal was conducted by Jill Jardine, Relationship Manager at Clydesdale Bank’s Business and Private Banking Centre in Edinburgh.
Building on the success of the launch of ‘The Advocates Batch’ from the New Town Blends, and two single malt cask releases from The Library Collection; the new additions will be also be based on landmarks of Edinburgh’s Old and New Towns. The existing range is already available at a number of high-end Edinburgh retailers including Harvey Nichols, Jenners, and Frasers.
The international brand behind the capital city, as well as its booming tourism industry inspired Gordon Watt and Gregor Mathieson to set up the business. With almost 40 years’ industry experience between them, they spotted a gap in the market for high-end whiskies for both tourists and locals.
Gordon Watt, Co-founder of Edinburgh Whisky, said: “We’ve been extremely encouraged by the response following our launch, with our whisky already available from a number of our target stockists; so it goes without saying that we’re looking forward to bringing new products to market later this year to build on the current momentum.
“The funding from Clydesdale Bank has come at just the right time, and has allowed us to invest further in the company to help build a solid base from which to grow.
“Whisky is already Scotland’s number one export and we have ambitious plans to tap into the global market through our long term focus on overseas markets.”
Stephen Buchan, Head of Clydesdale Bank’s Business and Private Banking Centre in Edinburgh said: “Edinburgh Whisky is an exciting new company in Scotland’s dynamic food and drink market.
“Clydesdale Bank is proud to support businesses looking for opportunities to expand. The move that Gordon and his business have made gives them a secure base which will provide a platform for further growth.”
Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank has strengthened its support for UK SMEs by becoming the first to partner with the British Business Bank under its ENABLE Guarantees scheme. Up to £125m of new lending by Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks will help more small businesses achieve their growth ambitions.
