Celebrity chef Brian Turner gave students a masterclass in cooking when he visited a local college in Norwich last week (6th March).
The event, held at City College Norwich’s Debut restaurant, saw 50 local residents and business professionals invited to attend a three-course meal prepared by students, and overseen by chef Brian Turner. In his role as an ambassador for Clydesdale Bank Brian supported students in the kitchen offering valuable advice while students prepared an à la carte meal for their guests.
On the menu created by 14 level two and three Professional Cookery students, was an expertly prepared dish of seared scallops on a bed of butter beans and chilli, followed by roast lamb with roasted tomato and green beans and white chocolate trifle for dessert. Attending to guests were 16 of the college’s Hospitality students.
Following the meal, Brian joined guests to take part in a Q&A session where he spoke about the work he hopes to continue with students across the UK as an ambassador for Clydesdale Bank.
Joe Mulhall, Hotel, Hospitality and Catering programme manager of City College Norwich, said:
“Brian imparted an invaluable insight into the values and experiences that have given him success in both his career and maintaining a work life balance. It was evident that Brian is a real ambassador for encouraging young chefs to develop in this industry.
“We are proud of our students and Brian was very impressed with how they performed in the kitchen. This exciting experience will enrich and definitely benefit their future careers.”
Richard Chapman, Head of Business & Private Banking in East Anglia, said: “The event was an excellent learning experience for the students, and provided us with an excellent opportunity to strengthen relationships with the Norfolk business community.
“Brian is the perfect example of what talent and drive can do for you professionally. His expertise has been invaluable to those who attended and I’m sure the students have benefitted from his wisdom and guidance on the day.”
