One of England’s most successful sportsmen, blind footballer David Clarke, delivered an inspirational speech to Reading businesses this week.
A number of local business people were given the unique opportunity to listen to David’s motivational outlook on life, where he spoke about focusing upon the positive during times of adversity.
David is Head of Clydesdale Bank’s Business and Private Banking Centre in St Albans and has won a myriad of awards for his contributions to football including the “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the 2013 English Football Awards. Inducted in to the Football Hall of Fame last year, David holds 144 Great Britain and England caps and has scored 128 international goals.
David’s exemplary positive attitude towards life has not only helped him become a sporting legend but has also motivated him to fundraise for charities close to his heart.
David said: “Being visually impaired does not need to mean that you cannot lead and enjoy a full, active life. I am proud of what I have achieved through my determination to never give up and sincerely hope that I can inspire others to do the same when facing their own challenges.”
His speech encouraged listeners to raise awareness and support their local communities. Tom Conlin, CEO of the Berkshire Council Blind Society, was present to hear David’s uplifting words.
Mark Laughlan, Head of Clydesdale Bank’s Business and Private Banking Centre in Reading, said: “David’s words were incredibly motivating and inspirational. Just as in sport, business has its challenges and we face hurdles along the way. David’s speech encouraged the whole room to believe that a positive attitude can make success more achievable'.”
