Smiths Equipment Hire has expanded into Warrington after acquiring a property on the Taurus Business Park with support from Yorkshire Bank.
The 14,000 sq ft site takes Smiths’ locations to ten, along with two in Blackpool, Cleveleys, St Annes, Kirkham, Preston, Blackburn, Bolton and Manchester.
The £750,000 property deal is the final stage in the company’s short-term plans to effectively cover the North West region, and has been 12 months in the planning.
The new site is a modern, high quality building in a high profile location visible from the busy M62 motorway. It will supply customers with the full Smiths product range of small tools, plant and powered access. The move is expected to create 10 jobs.
Smiths Equipment Hire is a family business founded more than 40 years ago, now turning over £6million. It employs 94 staff, a figure set to increase to more than 100 once the Warrington site is fully up and running in May.
Yorkshire Bank’s Preston Financial Solutions Centre provided funding for the deal.
Andy Nurse, business partner at Yorkshire Bank in Preston, said: “The business has shown real leadership to expand in a tough economy. The company’s business model has proved to be robust and the new Warrington operation is part of a clear plan for further growth.”
David Smith, managing director of Smiths Equipment Hire, added: “The site at Warrington is a high profile, high quality site which we are confident is a great investment for the business and an excellent trading location.
“We know there is a demand in the area for our service, and we’re confident that as we open our tenth location we are moving closer to our aim of having the region covered for our customers.”
