Sandhills expanding with Yorkshire Bank backing

28th August 2012

A family-run business in the West Midlands has expanded its portfolio with the opening of a new nursery with backing from Yorkshire Bank.

Sandhills Day Nurseries, which has its headquarters in Alvechurch, Birmingham, has opened a new 2,700 sq ft nursery in Wombourne with support from Yorkshire Bank’s Business Banking Centre in Birmingham.

The opening comes after Sandhills took over the Rainbow Day Nursery at the Kingsway Centre in Wombourne in August 2010, saving it from closure and securing employment in the area.

After turning the nursery around and avoiding a break in childcare provision for parents and children, Sandhills has now moved the nursery across the village to new modern premises at Yew Tree Court.

The new facility was officially opened by Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, and can accommodate 70 children from newborns to five-year-olds.

Sandhills Day Nurseries was established by Dal and Harchie Basra in 2005 and also has four further successful nurseries in Barnt Green, Alvechurch, Codsall and Boston in Lincolnshire catering for a total of more than 400 children.

The company launched with 25 staff and has grown to employ around 130, including creating 12 new jobs following the opening of the new Wombourne centre.

Dal said the firm has enjoyed year on year growth since 2005 and that Yorkshire Bank has been central to this success.

“The Rainbow Day Nursery was on the brink of closing before we stepped in and took over the management in 2010,” he said.

“We were given nine months on the original lease to find new premises, which proved difficult as we desperately wanted to find a suitable setting for the nursery and to keep it in Wombourne.

“It has taken a bit longer than we hoped but we are delighted with this new centre, which is much larger and a brighter environment with better facilities and resources.

“Yorkshire Bank has worked closely with us to support our continued expansion over the last seven years and we look forward to strengthening our relationship with the bank over the coming years.”

Neil Reddington, Business Partner at Yorkshire Bank’s Birmingham Business Banking Centre on Temple Row, said Sandhills has undergone a carefully planned growth strategy.

He said: “Sandhills is regarded as having among the top childcare facilities around and its superb OFSTED inspection results speak volumes for the quality of its care and the teams behind the centres.

“Yorkshire Bank is delighted to have supported Dal and his team on this latest development and we look forward to continuing our strong relationship with the company.”

Gavin Williamson MP added: “I’d like to congratulate Dal and Sarah and the rest of the team on the opening of the new Sandhills Day Nursery. It is a marvellous facility set in a fantastic location which is a great addition for Wombourne and the surrounding area.”
