Dairy supply company to spread success with Yorkshire Bank backing

2nd April 2012

Five new jobs have been created with the launch of a new product range by fledgling food services company, The Dairy Kompany Ltd, thanks to support from Yorkshire Bank.

The new jobs at the full-service dairy company are being created in sales, logistics, finance, marketing and administration, as well as in its supplier businesses. The business, from Hampsthwaite, near Harrogate, has created the new jobs after gaining funding from Yorkshire Bank’s Harrogate Financial Solutions Centre (FSC).

Now The Dairy Kompany, whose two directors have more than 30 years of combined food-services sector experience, is launching a new product range that includes butter, cheese and dairy powders, to help its customers exploit new market opportunities.

The directors, Louise Hewson and Brendan Scanlon, launched the Dairy Kompany a year ago and have already created a multi-million pound turnover business. They source British Retail Consortium (BRC)-standard dairy products, such as cheeses, butters, diary powders, egg-based products, from a range of suppliers throughout Britain and the continent, and deliver to more than 70 major food service companies throughout the UK.

Foods can be supplied in customer-branded packaging, or in The Dairy Kompany’s own recently launched “Darley” label brand.

Brendan Scanlon said: “Our business is about focusing on our customers’ needs and finding new solutions for them.

“We are among very few UK niche businesses in this sector who add supply-chain value by using our experience to identify new market opportunities for our customers, and working with our supplier partners to source or create the right products for them.

“We have already achieved this with our current range. Our customers find it very useful and it helps because we become part of their business development rather than just a supplier of goods which helps sustain customer loyalty.

“We have found Yorkshire Bank’s team at Harrogate FSC very supportive in the current climate. They have worked closely with us from the concept stage to devise an appropriate funding package that will help us achieve our objective of becoming an international trading company.”

The Dairy Kompany’s funding package from Yorkshire Bank includes invoice finance, multi-currency facilities and funding, and ancillary support.

Yorkshire Bank Harrogate FSC business partner, Andy Hay, said: “Experience and knowledge are crucial in the food industry and we’re pleased to support a forward–thinking, niche enterprise such as The Dairy Kompany that is set to grow through its highly-commercial, added-value approach to business.”

The Dairy Kompany’s funding was provided through Yorkshire Bank’s Investing for Growth Initiative which enables businesses to take loan repayment holidays, interest-only repayments and extended loan and credit terms to help them take advantage of quality growth opportunities. Businesses taking up the package can re-invest the cash into their operation for expansion, new staff, equipment, machinery and commercial development.

Yorkshire Bank’s Harrogate FSC is part of Yorkshire Bank’s York-based North Yorkshire FSC which covers the whole of York and North Yorkshire, apart from Craven District. The FSC has the biggest Agri-Business Team in the bank’s UK network and operates a traditional method of banking with funding from deposits used to support investments in the local community.
