Yorkshire Bank Ages Well With Wine Tasting

Staff at Yorkshire Bank in Wilmslow will be making a toast to the annals of time when they gather to celebrate the bank’s 150th birthday this month.

The bank has invited its members and other local businesses in the area to join them in marking the milestone at a special wine tasting evening at its Cheshire Financial Solutions Centre in Water Lane on July 16.

Paul Reeves, managing partner of Yorkshire Bank in Cheshire, said: “The reason Yorkshire Bank has enjoyed 150 successful years is because of our close relationships with local businesses and the local community.

“We would like to thank all of our members for their continued support, and what better way to celebrate the last 150 years than making a toast to the next 150.”

Yorkshire Bank was founded in 1859 in Halifax, West Yorkshire, by Colonel Edward Akroyd as a philanthropic organisation aimed at providing a means of saving for the working classes.

Over the decades, Yorkshire Bank developed into one of the most profitable regional banks in the UK and today is part of the National Australia Bank Group.

To mark 150 years of working with communities, Yorkshire Bank has launched a special £150,000 fund to help support charities and community groups. 

The £150,000 fund will be used to make awards to projects in four categories – environment, volunteering, education and regeneration. The winning entry in each category will receive the ‘Colonel Akroyd Community Award’, named after the bank’s founder, plus £10,000.
