A specialist car company in Warwickshire is bucking the trend in the motor industry after reporting massive increase in sales.
After a background with manufacturers Jaguar and Ferrari, John McGurk established McGurk Performance Cars in 2002 to sell luxury cars throughout the UK and Europe.
The Kineton-based company has been backed in its growth by Yorkshire Bank’s Financial Solutions Centre (FSC) at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
“Inspite of the recession we have grown year on year as we were able to price our cars to suit the market conditions. Bearing in mind we have only entered the second quarter of 2009 the market is extremely buoyant,” he said.
“We have trebled the amount of business that we have done compared to last year which gives an indication of how much better the market is.
“At the moment the biggest problem we have is buying the cars we need because there is a shortage of low mileage, well cared for prestige and performance cars. Selling our stock is straight forward.
“The reason for this is the massive slump in new car sales. People are fed up with large depreciation losses on new vehicles when the same car can be bought from us with a few thousand miles for 40% less. This is great news for us.
“I drive on average 1,000 miles per week looking for those special cars we need. Anyone can buy an average car, the success of my business relies on unearthing the really good ones.”
John said he places great emphasis on building relationships with his customers just like his banking partner Yorkshire Bank has with him.
He added: “In my business, I ask our customers to trust us and you have to earn trust over time. It’s the same from a banking perspective because the relationship is very important.
“When I spoke to Yorkshire Bank I was looking for a relationship we could build on. I wanted a bank that actually wanted to take the time to come and see me.”
Mark Sykes from Yorkshire Bank’s FSC in Coventry said the general perception of the ailing motor industry was in direct contrast to the figures posted by McGurk Performance Cars.
“It is superb that the company is going from strength to strength at a time when the motor industry needs some good news,” he said.
“We place great emphasis on creating relationships with our customers and that is appreciated by John and his team.”
