Yorkshire Bank art competition gives kids chance to win MP3 players for class

24/05/07

Primary school children in Leeds are being invited to get creative and take part in a competition to win MP3 players for their whole class courtesy of Yorkshire Bank.

As part of its sponsorship of Leeds Grand Theatre, Opera North and its education scheme Opera1, Yorkshire Bank is inviting children from across Leeds to get creative and draw their favourite theatrical characters to be in with a chance of winning MP3 players for their entire class.  The competition is open to children from school years 3 to 6.

The MP3 players, which are pre-recorded with two popular opera tunes and ready to load with the children's own favourite songs, will be awarded for three of the best drawings from each year group in Leeds.

As well as the opportunity to win an MP3 player each for all of their classmates a selection of the winners' drawings will be displayed in the foyer of Leeds Grand Theatre to impress theatregoers as they arrive.

Launching the competition, Yorkshire Bank's Head of Brand & Sponsorship Janet Myers said: "This competition is a great opportunity for children all around Leeds to expand their creativity and express themselves through art. And with the way the competition is structured it can be just one child's drawing that means the whole class win an MP3 player to put their favourite tunes on, whether they be pop, rock, show tunes or opera!  We look forward to receiving lots of entries from the talented young artists of Leeds."

Yorkshire Bank is also offering the chance to win an MP3 player at each and every library in Leeds. Budding artists aged between 7 and 9 years old are asked to draw their favourite character from a show, while those aged 10 to 12 years old are asked to draw their favourite scene. The two most creative children from each of the 54 libraries in Leeds will win an MP3 player.

The initiative is part of the ongoing successful partnership between Yorkshire Bank and Leeds Grand Theatre which sees Yorkshire Bank becoming the biggest corporate donor to the theatre's multi-million pound restoration project - Transformation - which has also created a permanent home for Opera North.  Huge technical and aesthetic improvements have been made both behind the scenes at The Grand and front of house in the Yorkshire Bank Auditorium.
