Homes for Ukraine scheme

Yorkshire Bank is fully supportive of the UK government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme, set up to provide accommodation to people fleeing the war in Ukraine.

Once you’ve registered for the scheme, your application has been approved and you have been matched to a Ukrainian individual or family, call us on 0800 121 4203 to let us know. We’re here 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 5pm on Wednesdays.

To support our customers who want to participate in the scheme and become a sponsor, we’ve created some frequently asked questions.

What is the Homes for Ukraine scheme?

The Homes for Ukraine scheme was launched by the UK government on 18 March 2022 to allow individuals or organisations in the UK to provide accommodation to people fleeing the war in Ukraine. The UK government is offering an optional ‘thank you’ payment of £350 per month to people who can accommodate Ukrainian nationals.

As a Yorkshire Bank mortgage customer, do I need to request your approval to join the scheme and become a sponsor?

No, you do not need our approval to register for the scheme or tell us when you have registered. We are fully supportive of this scheme and are committed to making it as easy as possible for our mortgage customers to participate.

Do I need to let you know when I have been approved for the scheme and paired with someone?

Yes. Please call us on 0800 121 4203 to tell us once you have been approved and matched with a Ukrainian individual or family. We’re here 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 5pm on Wednesdays.

Do I need to let my home insurance provider know?

If any of our Home Insurance policyholders wish to open up their home to Ukrainian individuals they will be treated as members of the policyholder’s family, regardless of whether or not they are related. This means the policy terms and conditions remain unchanged and all members of the household, including the Ukrainian individuals, will benefit from the full level of cover currently offered under the policy.

For other policies, we recommend that you let your buildings and contents insurer know about your participation in the scheme to check your cover is not affected.

Am I eligible to register for the scheme?

Anyone in the UK with a spare room or home can register, as long as:

  • you can offer accommodation for at least 6 months.
  • if you’re not a British citizen, you have leave to remain in the UK for at least 6 months.

In joining the scheme you should ensure that your mortgage remains affordable to you and that you keep up to date with your mortgage payments.
